BIOGRAPHIES
Chris Hirst studied the lute first at Birmingham Conservatoire then at the Guildhall in London. During this time he set up his own chamber group, with whom he toured and did many concerts. Following this Chris was a freelance lutenist for several years, highlights include 2 opera seasons with Musica nel Chiostro in Italy, a series of concerts in Brazil as a soloist, touring with the Uccellino Ensemble in France and many concerts and theatrical productions with groups such as the Parley of Instruments, Fiori Musicali, Barber Opera and Ex Cathedra. Chris has been regularly featured on Classic FM over the last few years, including a theorbo video that went viral several times with over 7 million views and is the most watched lute video on the entire internet.

Matthew Dodd was encouraged to take up baroque bassoon to take part in the regular concerts organised by David Stancliffe when he was bishop of Salisbury. He studied with Alberto Grazzi, and has since played in ensembles throughout the West of England, including the Corelli Ensemble and Charivari Agréable, as well as Salisbury Baroque.  He also plays dulcian and classical bassoon, as well as the modern Heckel-system instrument, all of which he showcased recently in a recital of music for bassoon through the ages.  His baroque bassoon is a modern copy by Peter de Koningh of instruments made by the Leipzig-based contemporary of J.S. Bach, Johann Eichentopf.

Miranda’s love of baroque music was apparent from an early age when she asked to learn the recorder aged 4. She started the violin a few years later and combined the two interests when she started exploring baroque violin as an adult.  She now plays recorder and baroque violin regularly in several chamber groups and ensembles across the South and West of England, including Salisbury Baroque, the Corelli Ensemble, the Brecon Baroque Festival Orchestra and Charivari Agréable. This programme brings together her love of the baroque and a long held interest in folk; in her twenties she danced in ‘Dorset Triumph’, based at the Springhead Trust and she now regularly plays a range of folk music at her mother’s care home.
